Mashriq is the name of a cultural and geographical region in the eastern part of the Arab world, divided between westernmost western Asia and easternmost North Africa. This area includes the modern Arab states of Bahrain, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Iraq. The four cultural regions in the Mashriq are Arabia, the Nile Valley, the Levant, and the Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf).
