Ariana Television Network (ATN) (Persian / Pashto: آریانا) is a private television network based in Kabul, Afghanistan. The channel was opened in 2005 by Afghan-American Ehsan Bayat (owner of the Afghan Wireless Communication Company) and started to broadcast internationally the following year.
ATN is one of Afghanistan's leading television channels and has terrestrial coverage in 33 of 34 provinces in the country. Viewers in Europe and North America can watch ATN's programs on Hotbird and Galaxy 25 satellites.
ATN has social, cultural, political and entertaining programs that focus on showing pure Afghan culture. Some of the long running shows include Entekhāb-e Binendah İz (Viewer's Choice, a music show), Parwāna-hā (Butterflies, children's show), Cinemā, Warzesh (Sports), Setārahā-ye Rangin (Colorful stars, a music show) and the annual ATN Awards.
59-Minute Duel is a popular cooking show that has been aired since 2011, where two rival chefs have exactly 59 minutes to cook a three-part meal for the jury. A unique ingredient will be provided each week and meals had to be made accordingly. The award is usually the title of "Golden Chef" given to the winner after the points are awarded by the famous jurors. Chiefs could be an Afghan and a foreigner in many cases, such as a soldier from an American or British base.
Ariana is also the product of Motakhases, a well-known comedy character who appeared on the former Khanda Hāy-e Girya Dār comedy show and later on Hekāyat Hāye Motakhases.
