HOW TO USE DENTAL WAX?
Dental wax is a very effective solution to mitigate the discomfort of orthodontics. Until you get used to orthodontics, we are going to explain why dental wax can make this process more bearable and how it should be used.
WHAT IS DENTAL WAX?
Most likely you have heard of this product, also known as dental wax for orthodontics.
Dental waxes are soft, harmless protective waxes for children and adults that can be used to lightly cover brackets and protruding wires with a smooth surface.
When a bracket or wire breaks or becomes dislodged, applying a piece of wax can prevent gum damage until you can see your orthodontist.
It is bought in pharmacies and parapharmacies, in the form of thin white bars.
Apart from the wax for the brackets, the patient can also opt for silicone, which adheres more easily and better covers the surface of the dental apparatus.
HOW IS THE BRACE WAX APPLIED?
As we have just indicated, using dental wax is very easy. You only have to take into account the following recommendations to know how to put the wax on the brackets.
Brush your teeth: Although this step should be part of your daily dental hygiene, it is essential to make the wax take effect. Do not forget the use of the interdental brush or a mouth irrigator to finish.
Wash your hands: You must do it carefully and with lukewarm water. Also use the soap between the fingers and, especially, on the nails, since, as you will see, they will be the part of your fingers that you will use the most.
Dry the surface of the bracket well: After rinsing it with water, you must dry it very well with cotton, checking that it does not leave residue on its surface. If you leave the area that bothers you wet, you will not get the wax to adhere properly.
Take a small amount of dental wax: It should be about the size of a marble or even smaller. Begin to mold it until it becomes a ball. Try to make its diameter as similar as possible to that of the part of your device that causes you discomfort
Place the wax in the area that causes you discomfort: You can place it both on the wire and on that part that rubs against you and prevents you from chewing or speaking without pain. Do not overdo using the wax, since you can also have discomfort caused by an excess of wax in the dental apparatus.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO USE DENTAL WAX?
It is necessary to use dental wax because its use prevents the aggravation of an injury caused by the bracket that can end up becoming a more serious infection.
You must take into account that the wax can come off and, in this case, you could swallow it. Don't worry, it won't cause you any kind of digestive disturbance.
Braces wax is an important ally so that your orthodontics stop bothering you, but we must not forget that its recurrent use, although harmless, is always a symptom of an orthodontic adjustment problem.
Therefore, if you notice that you have to use it continuously, it is recommended that you come to visit us at Junyent Estudi Dental so that we can check where the error is that we can correct with some simple adjustments.
OTHER USES THAT CAN BE GIVEN TO DENTAL WAX
INVISALIGN ATTACHMENTS:
The attachments used in the Invisalign system have a soft touch, so they do not usually cause injuries. But the same thing happens with braces. If the person previously has a sore, it is possible to protect the affected area with a little dental wax.
In any case, in case of having ulcers or sores on the tongue, it is recommended to use glycerin for the tongue. Regularly apply glycerin to the affected parts of the tongue and you will see a great improvement in a very short time.
THE ARC OF ORTHODONTICS:
In orthodontics with metal brackets, the dental apparatus is attached to the vestibular part of the teeth, but these are joined by an arch.
Sometimes this arc can protrude more than necessary and can cause a wound on the inside of the cheek.
Until you can come to the dental clinic to have it cut, a good solution is to place bracket wax at the end of the arch to prevent further injury.
