WXIN, virtual channel 59 (UHF digital channel 22), is a Fox-owned television station licensed in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The station is owned by the Nexstar Media Group, as part of a duopoly with Bloomington-licensed affiliate CBS WTTV, channel 4 (and its licensed satellite Kokomo WTTK, channel 29). The two stations are sharing studios on Network Square (near 71st Street and I-465) in the Intech Park office complex in northwestern Indianapolis; The WXIN transmitter is located on West 73rd Street (or Westlane Road) on the northern outskirts of the city (west of the Meridian Hills).
WXIN is available via cable on Comcast Xfinity, Charter Spectrum and AT & T U-verse Channel 11. The distribution of UHF channel 59 in Central Indiana was originally assigned to Lafayette (located about 63 miles (101 km) northwest of Indianapolis). The distribution will be taken over by the CBS affiliate WFAM-TV (now WLFI-TV), whose original owner Sarkes Tarzyan (who also founded the current sister station WXIN WTTV) signed the contract in June 1953. After that, the station transferred its allocation to the UHF channel. 18 in 1957, UHF channel 59 remained inactive until the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) transferred the allotment to Indianapolis.
In the late 1970s, the US Federal Communications Commission began accepting applications for Channel 59 in Indianapolis, receiving four applications from the Indianapolis Television Corporation; Channel 59 Indiana; Indiana Television Corporation (owned by United Cable); and Indianapolis 59 (a subsidiary of the young Sinclair Broadcasting Group). Indianapolis Television Corporation secured a joint settlement of the channel, reimbursing its competitors for a total of $ 128,300.
