Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is the state owned media corporation of Kenya. It broadcasts in English and Swahili, as well as most of the local languages of Kenya. The company began life in 1928 when Kenya was a British colony. This was the first station in Kenya. When Kenya became an independent country in 1964, the company was renamed the Voice of Kenya. In 1989, the Kenya Parliament changed the name of the company from Voice of Kenya to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.
During the reign of President Daniel Arab, Moi KBC became the government's press secretary. Each post began with a story about what the president did that day. Under then President Mwai Kibaki, KBC took a more objective approach. The company has helped many of Kenya's top journalists, especially before the liberalization of radio waves in Kenya. Since independence, the leading radio broadcasters have been Maurice Mwenda (television), Simeon Ndesanjo (radio), Dalail Mzee (radio), Aziz Yakub (radio and television) and Aish Jenneby (television).
British service publishers Peter Clare, David Kelly, Hassan Mazoa, Sammy Louis, Norbert Okare and Martin Billy Mutta took over the service, followed by Peter Njoroge Mwaura, Elizabeth Omolo, Esther Kanyago, Jakub Ishak, Amos Nyogu.
In the 80s and 90s, names such as Khamisi Temor, Leornard Mambo Mbothela, Omuga Kabisae, Ngulamu Mwaviro, Enacled Car were also heard. The British service received its cut from KIMC alumnus Sera Kihara, Gladys Erud. Opportunities were also provided to John Karani Wanjir Kago Johnston Omurunga as well as Ike Mulembo, William Kiamba, Larry Wambua and other KBC Tech staff at English Service.
