Carrie Underwood has recorded a fresh cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mama, I’m Coming Home” for a new Apple Music Sessions EP created exclusively for the streaming service. The song, which Underwood calls one of her all-time favorites, appears alongside intimate reworkings of her own material on the session.
“I have always been an Ozzy Osbourne fan and ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ is one of my all-time favorite songs,” Underwood said in a press statement. “I’ve always thought it felt a lot like a country song, and I’ve wanted to cover it for a long time. This was a really fun opportunity for me to be able to finally make that happen. I hope we’ve done Ozzy proud and I hope he likes it.”
For the Apple Music Sessions project, Underwood recorded a stripped-down version of her song “Ghost Story” and a new arrangement of “Blown Away,” delivering a more acoustic, emotionally direct take on both tracks. These versions spotlight her vocal dynamics and the storytelling that define her work, offering fans a more intimate listening experience than the original studio recordings.
“Blown Away” originally served as the title track of her 2012 album Blown Away, and the new session version highlights the song’s lyrical power in a pared-back setting. Clips of her performing the reimagined “Blown Away” were shared on social platforms, giving fans a preview of the understated production and the emotional edge the new arrangement provides.
Carrie performed with Axl Rose, set to tour in October
In addition to releasing the Apple Music Sessions EP, Underwood has been promoting her most recent studio album, Denim & Rhinestones, and she spent time in London earlier this month connected to those promotional efforts. The country superstar made headlines during festival season when she invited Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose to join her onstage at the Stagecoach Festival in April. Their onstage duet drew wide attention and was widely celebrated by fans of both artists.
Axl Rose returned the favor by inviting Underwood to appear at the band’s UK shows, where she joined Guns N’ Roses for two songs during each of their July 1 and July 2 performances at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The cross-genre collaboration brought together country and classic rock audiences and showcased Underwood’s versatility as a performer. After the shows, she expressed heartfelt appreciation for the experience, calling the moments “magical” and thanking the band, their crew, and the fans for a warm welcome.
Underwood wrote on social media that the experience felt like being reunited with friends and heroes. “Together again…but this time in London and with a few more friends!” she shared, praising Guns N’ Roses and their team for making her feel like family and thanking the fans for their enthusiastic reception of the legendary band.
Looking ahead, Carrie Underwood will bring her own headline production to the road this fall. The Denim & Rhinestones tour is scheduled to launch in October and will feature Jimmie Allen as a special guest on select dates. The tour promises to blend high-energy hits, emotional ballads, and new arrangements like those found on the Apple Music Sessions EP, giving concertgoers both the spectacle and the intimate moments that have become her trademark.
The Apple Music Sessions EP provides another way for fans to connect with Underwood’s music in a stripped-back format that emphasizes songwriting and vocal performance. Whether revisiting a classic like “Mama, I’m Coming Home” or experiencing new takes on her own catalog, listeners will find a thoughtfully produced set of tracks that underline why Carrie Underwood remains a prominent and evolving voice in contemporary country and pop music.
