Although Fritz Hager left American Idol season 20 at the Top 5 and did not participate in the Top 3 hometown visits, his return to Tyler, Texas felt like a true homecoming. Friends, family and local fans packed into his hometown venue to celebrate the singer-songwriter’s run on the show and to hear him perform live.

VIP tickets sold out in minutes

Fresh off an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Fritz headlined a free concert at True Vine Brewing Company in Tyler. While the event had no general admission fee, a limited number of VIP meet-and-greet tickets were available — and they sold out quickly. Fritz told the Tyler Morning Telegraph that his father alerted him when the VIP tickets vanished in roughly 10 minutes. “I was like, ‘woah,’” he said, surprised and grateful for the turnout.

At the show Fritz performed his American Idol original single, “Hearts Align,” alongside several covers he sang on the program and other original compositions. After months living in Los Angeles while competing on Idol, he said the simplest pleasures — like sleeping in his own bed — felt especially meaningful. “It’s been a crazy couple of months and it’s good being able to come home,” he told the Telegraph.

“The fact that anyone wants to listen to my music is such a blessing to me. I’m just really grateful,” Fritz added, reflecting on the support he’s received from his hometown and from viewers across the country.

May 27 officially declared Fritz Hager Day

Before Fritz’s performance, local leaders honored him: the mayor of Tyler and the Smith County judge declared May 27 to be Fritz Hager Day. The proclamation recognized his achievements on American Idol and celebrated the pride the community felt in his success.

When the Party’s Over (Billie Eilish)

One of the standout moments of the evening was Fritz’s haunting cover of Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over.” Fans praised his vocal control and emotional delivery as he reinterpreted the song with his own tone and sensitivity. Short clips and posts from the concert circulated on social media, giving viewers a sense of the intimate atmosphere at True Vine Brewing Company.

Fritz’s original: “All My Friends”

He also performed his original song “All My Friends,” which he showcased during the Top 7 episode of American Idol. That performance highlighted Fritz’s strengths as both a songwriter and an interpreter of material, blending personal lyrics with a warm, compelling vocal presence.

Another original: “Golden”

Among his originals, Fritz included “Golden,” delivering the tune with an easy, melodic touch that resonated with the hometown crowd. Those in attendance responded enthusiastically to his newer material, signaling strong local support as he prepares to release more music.

New music is definitely coming

In a recent interview with Hollywood Life, Fritz promised that “100 percent new music is definitely coming.” He revealed that he spent much of his time on and off the show writing songs, even composing several while staying in hotel rooms during the competition. Writing, he said, is his outlet — something he turns to constantly.

Fritz also shared that his time in Los Angeles allowed him to meet industry people and collaborators, and that “there’s cool stuff on the line for sure.” While he plans to relocate away from Tyler, he is still deciding between Los Angeles and Nashville as his next base. “It’s like a coin flip almost,” he said, noting that he likely will move between the two cities as opportunities arise.

Looking ahead, Fritz confirmed plans to collaborate with Top 3 contestant Leah Marlene. The two have discussed working together since Hollywood Week, but scheduling and the demands of the show limited what they could do while Idol was airing. Now that the season has concluded, Fritz said he’s excited to explore those collaborations and expects “plenty of” joint projects in the future.

Overall, Fritz Hager’s hometown concert offered a warm, supportive sendoff and a glimpse of what’s next: new songs, creative collaborations, and a career he’s ready to pursue outside the competition arena.
