Does being part of Bachelor Nation make you a democratic socialist? Probably not. But it does seem to confer a certain confidence in poor judgment.
Here’s the cautious update from Chris Harrison, who told Good Morning America that Hannah “feels really good about all the decisions she’s made” and is happy. That could mean she chose someone other than Luke — maybe the FedEx guy or Juan Pablo — or that she decided she’s demisexual and would rather stay single and enjoy her life. Whatever the case, Hannah will announce she’s reached clarity, though that might simply mean she bought new contact lenses.
Chris also hinted at Peter’s future on the franchise, saying, “If he’s not the one, I do hope that Peter learned from that, and is willing to come back and take that leap and take that risk.” In other words, the pilot may well be in line for the next season of The Bachelor.
Tonight, Hannah will review her relationships with Jed, Luke, Peter, and Tyler and decide who gets Fantasy Suite time. Rumor has it three contestants will remain — a tidy number for dramatic purposes.
Mark your calendar for Monday, July 29, when the inevitable bickering and recriminations of eliminated contestants will be aired on Men Tell All. After that episode airs, expect social media to explode — and for certain names to trend.
The remaining cast travels to Crete, where the scenery includes spanakopita, baklava, and more emotional turmoil than a Greek tragedy. Hannah calls the setting beautiful and romantic. She also admits it’s been a while since she’s been physically intimate, but insists the Fantasy Suite is about more than sex — it’s also about privacy and the minibar.
Peter’s date comes first. They take a boat ride — the show makes sure there’s water involved even if they’re filming in the desert — and Peter speaks about their future together in earnest, picturing homeownership and domestic bliss. He tells Hannah he’s let his walls down, and they share a kiss beneath a tall mast. That night they enjoy an intimate evening; the following morning Hannah says the night was “really nice,” while Peter calls it the best time of his life and insists he feels secure in their connection.
Next is Tyler’s date, where physical chemistry is front and center. They receive couple’s massages and spend time together in a more sensual setting. Hannah appreciates Tyler’s obvious attraction, but is unsure whether a relationship built largely on physical desire is sufficient foundation for a long-term commitment. At night, Tyler arrives in a mauve jacket and expresses that the Fantasy Suite is an opportunity to deepen their bond beyond physical intimacy. Hannah decides that sleeping together wouldn’t further their relationship in the way she needs right now. Tyler accepts that decision with grace, and they enjoy a night of conversation and closeness.
The final hometown-style date features Jed. When they reunite, tension briefly resurfaces over Luke’s continuing presence in Hannah’s life. Jed voices his concerns about the uncertainty Hannah seems to be holding onto, and she admits that Luke has a connection with her. Jed asks why she holds onto something that seems ambiguous, and Hannah says she’s trying to be honest and sort through her feelings. They talk it through candidly and choose to spend the night together in a more modest hotel room, leaving the windmills and yachts behind for a quieter intimacy. The next morning they wake wrapped in each other’s arms, both more certain of their feelings.
Then comes the Luke drama. Luke arrives determined and confident, and he and Hannah fly by helicopter to Santorini. Hannah describes their connection as unlike anything she’s felt with the others and praises his kissing. Luke, thrilled and convinced, tells Hannah he sees her as his future wife and even hints at proposing. That evening a more difficult conversation takes place: Luke wants to talk about sex, expressing that he sees physical intimacy as something reserved for marriage. He suggests that if Hannah has been intimate with other men, he needs to know and would try to forgive her, though he clearly disapproves of such behavior outside his personal standards.
Hannah responds forcefully. She rejects being judged for her past and refuses to accept a double standard. She tells Luke that she’s found clarity about him: she does not want him to be her husband. He continues to press the issue, but Hannah cuts him off. She admits she has had sex and asserts that it doesn’t make her less deserving of love. Luke leaves in a limo, and Hannah watches him go, having finally made a decisive choice.
Previews suggest Luke will return to crash the next Rose Ceremony in an attempt to win Hannah back, setting up further conflict in upcoming episodes.
