The Voice returns for Season 23 on NBC, premiering Monday, March 6. This season’s coaching panel includes Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Blake Shelton. Season 23 introduces several format changes that reshape how contestants advance. The Blind Auditions will produce a smaller Top 40 (down from Season 22’s Top 56). During the Playoffs, each coach can use a one-time “Playoffs Pass” to send a chosen artist directly to the Playoffs, bypassing the Knockouts. The Knockouts return to a two-artist face-off format, rather than the trios used in Season 22.
A major structural change this year is the handling of the Playoffs: instead of serving as the first live shows, the Playoffs will be pre-recorded and broadcast across multiple episodes. From those Playoffs, coaches will select two artists each (from a pool of 20 total) to advance to the Live semifinals. The season’s live component will be concentrated into two weeks: the Live semifinals and the Live finale. These adjustments tighten the field more quickly and place greater emphasis on the semifinals and finale as the decisive, viewer-driven moments.
Notably, there are no Battle Round advisors this season, another departure from recent seasons that places more responsibility on the coaches themselves. Expect Reba McEntire’s Mega Mentor role to be a key highlight during the Knockouts, offering contestants unique mentorship and a boost in visibility.

Scheduling notes: Tuesday episodes initially air at 9:00 PM through March 28. After the Playoffs begin, The Voice will not air on the Tuesday immediately following the start of live shows. Additionally, on Tuesday, April 11, NBC’s schedule will introduce a new game show, which will affect regular Tuesday programming.
