Surprise! The Voice coach John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen welcome 4th child via surrogacy

Chrissy Teigen and her husband, John Legend, have quietly welcomed their fourth child. The couple revealed that the newest addition arrived through surrogacy, a choice they kept private until Chrissy shared a detailed message on social media.

On Tuesday, June 28, Chrissy Teigen posted a long, candid statement to Instagram describing the journey that led to the birth of their baby boy, Wren Stephens. In the post she explained that the couple had long hoped to have four children and that this newest arrival completes the family they imagined.

Chrissy wrote that after the heartbreaking loss of their son Jack during pregnancy, she and John thought she might not be able to carry more children herself. Because of that, in 2021 they contacted a surrogacy agency and even considered using two surrogates at once to bring them healthy babies. Around the same time, Chrissy decided to attempt one more pregnancy herself.

They restarted the IVF process—“the same process that gave us our beautiful Luna and Miles,” Chrissy noted—and created new embryos. That process resulted in a successful transfer and Chrissy became pregnant with their daughter Esti. Meanwhile, they met “the most incredible, loving, compassionate surrogate we could ever imagine,” whom they named Alexandra.

The first embryo didn’t survive

Chrissy described how their first embryo transferred to Alexandra did not survive. She praised Alexandra’s courage and selflessness, writing about the physical procedures and mental strain the surrogate endured to prepare for a second transfer. After surgeries to clear scar tissue and the emotional toll of the process, Alexandra persisted for the family.

The second embryo, Chrissy revealed, took successfully with Alexandra and it was a boy. That pregnancy progressed while Chrissy was simultaneously carrying their daughter Esti. Chrissy recounted the emotional moment when, just before midnight on June 19, she witnessed Alexandra give birth. In her words, the delivery came “amidst a bit of chaos, but with strength and pure joy and love.”

Chrissy summed up the family’s feelings plainly: “Our hearts, and our home, are officially full,” she wrote. She also paid tribute to their late son, Jack, saying they feel his presence and believe both infants receive “angel kisses” from him.

The couple previously endured the loss of Jack in September 2020 due to pregnancy complications, a tragedy they have spoken about publicly in the years since. Earlier this year they welcomed their third child, Esti, in January. Now, with the arrival of Wren, John and Chrissy are the proud parents of four children—Luna, Miles, Esti and Wren—surrounded by family, gratitude and the complex emotions that follow loss and new life.

John Legend will return to The Voice for seasons 24 and 25

John Legend also shared photos and a brief caption on his Instagram, writing, “Wren Alexander Stephens our new love.” The images feature the whole family, including older children Luna and Miles, with John cradling both Esti and Wren in a tender family portrait. The photos underscore the couple’s joy and relief after a long journey that involved IVF, surrogacy, and healing from loss.

Professionally, John Legend will be returning to his role as a coach on The Voice for seasons 24 and 25. Fans can expect to see him back on the show after a brief absence from the Spring 2023 cycle. For John and Chrissy, the coming months will be a time to focus on family life and adjusting to being a family of six at home.

Chrissy’s Instagram note and John’s photos gave followers both the facts and the emotional context: a couple’s long-held hope for four children, the difficult detours they faced, the generosity and sacrifice of a surrogate named Alexandra, and the peaceful conclusion of that chapter with the birth of baby Wren. The announcement balances public celebration with private remembrance, honoring Jack while welcoming a new life into the family.

This story highlights several important topics—surrogacy, IVF, pregnancy loss and family planning—while centering the human experience of love, grief and resilience. Chrissy and John’s message emphasizes gratitude for the surrogate who carried and delivered their son, and for the support of family and friends as they expand their household and continue their lives together.
