See the list of 2024 Oscar Nominations: American Idol’s Fantasia Barrino Taylor snubbed
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the official list of 2024 Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning, January 23. The nominees were revealed live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid. This year’s Academy Awards race is dominated by high-profile films such as Barbie, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon, among other strong contenders across multiple categories.
One of the notable talking points from the nominations was the absence of American Idol alum Fantasia Barrino Taylor from the Oscar ballot. Barrino Taylor, who earned a Golden Globe and a BAFTA nomination for her portrayal of Celie in The Color Purple, did not receive an Academy nomination. The Color Purple received recognition in a supporting category, with Danielle Brooks nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
The Academy’s nomination process involves peer voting within each of its 18 branches: actors nominate actors, directors nominate directors, editors nominate editors, and so on. For categories such as Animated Feature Film, International Feature Film and Live Action Short Film, nominees are chosen by multi-branch screening committees. All voting members of the Academy are eligible to vote for Best Picture nominees. This year was notable for record voter participation, with ballots submitted from a reported 93 countries.
The 96th Academy Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC on Sunday, March 10 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Jimmy Kimmel will return as host, broadcasting from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Below is the full list of nominees for the 2024 Oscars, organized by category for easy reference.
