American Idol 2024 Spoilers: Top 24 – Season 22 Contestant List and Song Choices
American Idol filmed its Top 24 contestants at the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii, continuing a recent tradition of holding this round at the island location. The tapings occurred on Wednesday, February 7 and Thursday, February 8, in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, with Ryan Seacrest returning as host.
Tori Kelly and Jelly Roll serve as mentors
This season, mentors included season 9 alum Tori Kelly and country star Jelly Roll. Both artists worked closely with the contestants during rehearsals and served as guest advisers during the Hawaii tapings. According to reports from an Idol-focused spoiler account, the mentors also each performed a song on their respective nights: Jelly Roll sang “Halfway to Hell,” while Tori Kelly performed “High Water.” On those evenings they acted as additional judges alongside the regular panel.
As with past seasons, the contestants were divided into two groups for the mentor sessions and the Hawaii performances. The two groups will be featured across separate broadcasts. The following contestant list and their song choices were reported by spoiler sources and compiled after the tapings; these listings should be taken as unofficial until ABC confirms the final line-up.
Note: An earlier list included a contestant who is reportedly no longer part of the Top lineup. That performer, Cate Gartner, has been removed from the current list.
Iam Tongi appears with Group 1 and performs “Why Kiki”
Hawaii native and reigning champion Iam Tongi made a guest appearance during the Group 1 night and performed his single “Why Kiki.” He also introduced one of the Group 1 performers, Abi Carter, who sang last in that set. These guest moments are intended to highlight the show’s ongoing connection to its previous winners and to the local community in Hawaii.

Throughout auditions, the judges traveled to multiple cities, including Tuskegee, Alabama; Santa Barbara, California; Leesburg, Georgia; Los Angeles; and Nashville. Contestants who earned golden tickets advanced to the Hollywood Round. From there, 57 singers reached the Showstopper round, performing in front of a live audience. After those performances, the judges selected the Top 24 performers who moved on to compete in Hawaii.
These reported song choices and group assignments reflect what was observed during the Hawaii tapings. Because the information comes from spoiler reports and has not been officially confirmed by the network at the time of this report, readers should treat the lineup as provisional. The producers sometimes adjust the final on-air order and contestant announcements before broadcast.
Season 22 of American Idol, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, is scheduled to premiere on ABC on Sunday, February 18. Fans can expect the upcoming episodes to showcase the mentor-led performances, the judges’ feedback, and the beginning of the competition that will narrow the field toward the live elimination rounds.
