Season 22 returns with judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, with Ryan Seacrest hosting. The judges visited hometowns for auditions, including Leesburg, Georgia (Luke Bryan); Tuskegee, Alabama (Lionel Richie); and Santa Barbara, California (Katy Perry), and also held auditions in Nashville and Los Angeles. After initial auditions, contestants progressed through Hollywood Week, a Showstopper round, and live performance rounds where public votes determine who advances.
Following the Hollywood Round, the Top 57 performers competed in the Showstopper stage in front of a live Los Angeles audience. From that group, the Top 24 advanced and traveled to Hawaii to perform at the Disney Aulani Resort. Celebrity mentors for the Top 24 included Jelly Roll and Tori Kelly. Fan voting plays a central role throughout the live rounds and will decide the Top 20 for Season 22.
