After a brief on-beach start, teams scattered to parked cars to drive into town for their first Detour. Those doing “Pin ‘Em Down” had to pay close attention to the luchador demonstration—Ricky & César and Rod & Leticia both failed initial attempts and had to rewatch the presentation. Limited capacity for the rocking-horse task forced some teams, including Chris & Mary and later Juan & Shane, to switch to the memory challenge when no horses remained.
By the time most teams completed their Detours, Ricky & César and Rod & Leticia had pulled ahead to the Roadblock: a lasso challenge where racers had to hop through seven loops without touching the rope. Rod and César tackled the lasso Roadblock early and both completed it, allowing Rod & Leticia to reach the Pit Stop first.
