CBS Renews Survivor, The Amazing Race and Nine Additional Series for the 2023–2024 Season
The CBS Television Network has announced a major slate of renewals, confirming that longtime hits and returning originals will anchor its 2023–2024 lineup. Leading the renewal list are two of the network’s most recognizable reality franchises, Survivor and The Amazing Race, alongside a mix of scripted dramas, comedies and documentary programming.
Key renewals and season details
Survivor will return for its 44th season with a special two-hour premiere on Wednesday, March 1 (8:00–10:00 PM ET/PT). The Amazing Race recently completed its 34th season in fall 2022, sending competing teams on an expansive trek around the world, and remains a core part of CBS’s reality slate.
In addition to those two franchises, CBS has renewed nine more series for the upcoming television season. The renewed CBS Original series include:
- NCIS — the network’s top broadcast drama.
- 60 Minutes — the network’s leading news program.
- CSI: Vegas
- NCIS: Hawai’i
- Survivor
- The Amazing Race
- Tough As Nails
- Lingo
- 48 Hours — the true-crime docuseries that has been Saturday’s #1 non-sports primetime series for 17 consecutive seasons.
Overall pickup tally and previously announced renewals
To date, CBS has ordered renewals for 19 series. That total includes previously announced renewals for shows across multiple genres such as the #1 new drama Fire Country, the #1 comedy Young Sheldon, and returning comedies Ghosts, The Neighborhood, and Bob Hearts Abishola. Scripted dramas and procedural favorites that were also renewed include The Equalizer, So Help Me Todd, the FBI franchise—FBI, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted.
New series pickup: The Never Game
CBS has also given an early series order to a new drama titled The Never Game, which stars Justin Hartley. An early series order generally signals strong confidence from the network in a project and positions the show for inclusion in the upcoming season’s schedule.
Network strategy and executive comment
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, reflected on the season’s performance and the network’s direction: “This season CBS is continuing its winning tradition, delivering an unparalleled combination of top returning series and new hit shows that are entertaining huge audiences on both broadcast and streaming. It is a testament to the stellar work being done by our best-in-class talent in front of and behind the camera that we have had yet another exceptional season, and I know we will only continue to build on this foundation of outstanding programming as we look ahead toward next fall.”
