David Archuleta, The Jennifer Hudson Show, The Voice and Survivor nominated for 2024 GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD has revealed the nominees for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles on March 14, 2024, and in New York City on May 11, 2024. These awards celebrate media that portray LGBTQ people and stories with fairness, accuracy, and inclusivity.

The 35th edition continues GLAAD’s longstanding mission to honor journalists, filmmakers, musicians, and creators who expand understanding and visibility for LGBTQ communities across mainstream media.

David Archuleta nominated in Breakthrough Artist category

American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta earns a nomination in the Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist category. After publicly coming out as LGBTQ+ in 2021, Archuleta experienced a personal faith crisis that led him to step away from the Church of Latter Day Saints, a major turning point in his life and career.

In 2023 Archuleta received recognition as one of Out Magazine’s Out 100 Storytellers and participated in Project Angel Food’s Path of Angels by unveiling a star dedication in honor of George Michael. Musically, he released three singles that year reflecting his coming-out journey: “Up,” “I’m Yours,” and “Afraid To Love.”

Archuleta also signed a book deal with Dey Street Books for a memoir that will cover his upbringing, his time on American Idol, and the decisions that led him to come out publicly.

The Jennifer Hudson Show nominated for Best Talk Show Episode; The Voice and Survivor receive nods for Best Reality Competition Program

A segment from Jennifer Hudson’s daytime series, The Jennifer Hudson Show — titled “Jennifer Hudson Surprises HIV Activist with $10,000” — is nominated in the Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode category.

The Jennifer Hudson Show was recently renewed for an additional season. Jennifer Hudson herself has reached EGOT status, having earned a Grammy and an Oscar for her performance in Dreamgirls, and producing credits that led to Tony and Emmy recognition.

In the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category, long-running shows such as The Voice and Survivor are among the nominees, competing alongside other reality titles recognized for their inclusive storytelling and representation.
