Survivor Season 45 Week 5 Recap and Live Blog
Tonight’s episode of Survivor 45 delivered strategy, shifting alliances, and a tense tribal council. This recap covers the major storylines from the Reba, Belo, and Lulu tribes, the immunity challenge, a pivotal journey that offers game-changing amulet advantages, and the vote that sent a player home.
After returning from tribal council, the Reba tribe reels from tension when Sifu realizes someone wrote his name down. He demands to know who voted for him, but Dee keeps quiet. Dee, Julie, and J. Maya attempt to pin the vote on Sean — a claim Sifu doesn’t buy, especially after Sean told him he didn’t cast a vote. Sifu becomes determined to unmask the culprit.
On the Belo camp, Kendra provides a memorable moment when she attempts to eat a worm and ultimately spits it out. Her quirky personality amuses Drew, who remarks how the game attracts very different people. Over at Lulu, Jake briefly faints after standing too quickly; his tribemates attribute it to low blood pressure and lack of food. In one of his confessionals, Jake opens up about past struggles with binge eating and how getting into better shape helped him prepare for the show.
Back at Lulu, Katurah is seen searching for a hidden immunity idol, which raises suspicion among the rest of her tribe. Sabiyah, however, has already located the Lulu tribe’s hidden immunity idol, a fact Kaleb later reveals to Kellie as he works to build individual relationships across the tribe. Kaleb notes that Kellie is well-liked and tries to get closer to her as an ally.
Reba’s internal politics deepen when Sifu manufactures a fake idol and tells his tribemates he has protection, all while continuing his investigation into who voted for him. He suspects J. Maya, though it was actually Dee who played the secret vote. Dee reflects on her reasons for playing — her family’s immigration from Cuba and her desire to honor them by staying in the game.
On Belo, Brando feels more chemistry with Drew than with his original tribemate Kendra. Brando and Drew bond over Pokémon and Brando pitches a lighthearted “nerd alliance” — an idea Drew doesn’t buy. Sensing Drew’s loyalty to Reba allies, Brando quickly moves to reaffirm his connection with Kendra. He and Kendra identify Emily, the remaining original Lulu member on the tribe, as a potential swing vote. Both sides try to court her, and Emily admits in confessional she’s keeping her options open.
Tensions continue elsewhere: Katurah voices ongoing frustration with Bruce’s rude and bossy behavior, a sentiment Kaleb begins to share. Meanwhile, on Reba, J. Maya plots to convince Sifu not to play an idol by feigning outsider status and claiming she voted for him. Julie and Dee initially support the ruse, but Dee later hesitates and suggests they might instead vote out J. Maya, noting J. Maya wasn’t part of the original Reba alliance.
The immunity challenge pits tribes against a three-level obstacle course to collect keys, unlock sandbags, and hit three targets. The first two tribes to knock down their targets secure immunity and fresh fish. The contest stays close early, but Belo falls behind and can’t catch up at the target round. Reba hits its three targets first, earning immunity. Lulu also completes its targets before Belo does, meaning Reba and Lulu win immunity, and Belo is sent to tribal council.
After the challenge, host Jeff Probst announces a journey: Reba must choose one person from each tribe to compete. Reba selects J. Maya, Kellie, and Austin for the trip. On Belo, scramble and whisper campaigns begin. Kendra pitches Emily on voting out Drew, while Brando tries to protect Kendra by offering Drew his Shot in the Dark advantage if Drew helps keep Brando and votes out Kendra. Drew resists, suspicious of Brando’s motives, and shares his concerns with Emily. Confusion spreads and loyalties blur; Emily says she’s torn and knows whoever she votes for will burn a bridge with either her original Belo or the Reba-linked players.
During the journey, Austin, J. Maya, and Kellie face a choice: take a sandwich or accept an amulet advantage. The amulets grow more powerful as they become scarcer: three amulets grant an extra vote to each holder, two amulets create a steal-a-vote power, and a single remaining amulet functions as a hidden immunity idol. Though Austin initially wants food, J. Maya pushes for the advantage and Kellie vacillates. Ultimately all three decide to take amulets, a decision that could reverberate as the numbers dwindle.
Upon returning to camp, Austin lies about the journey, claiming the group lost the challenge, then confesses the truth to Drew. Drew suggests Austin share the amulet details with Emily to earn her trust. Austin does so, but Emily remains unsure how she will cast her vote — she knows tonight’s decision will have long-term consequences for her game.
At tribal council, the conversation ranges from the emotional ambiance around Jeff’s torch to strategy about the recent swap and shifting alliances. Brando frames the situation as one of connected relationships that can be useful; Kendra emphasizes independence; Drew discusses strategic positioning for the merge; and Emily says she intends to prove her loyalty. When it’s time to vote, Austin initially sacrifices his vote to prolong his hidden immunity idol’s usefulness but then uses a goodwill advantage to restore his vote for the night.
Jeff reads the ballots: the votes alternate between Drew and Brando until the final count reveals a majority against Brando. The vote results in Brando being the fifth player voted out of Survivor 45. His elimination closes a chapter on the Belo tribe’s turmoil and sets up fresh dynamics as the season approaches its next phase.
That wraps tonight’s episode recap. Return next week for another live recap as alliances continue to shift and the hunt for advantages intensifies.
