Seven milestones on March 7
Several artists marked important chart moments on the week of March 7. From reality-show alumni to contemporary pop and country stars, a mix of covers, collaborations and original releases drove notable movement across multiple radio formats and the Billboard charts.
Chris Daughtry, who rose to fame as a Top 5 finalist on American Idol’s fifth season, scored another Active Rock top 10 with his cover of Journey’s classic “Separate Ways,” featuring Lzzy Hale. Daughtry has said he was inspired to revisit the song after hearing it in the hit series Stranger Things; his version brings a modern rock edge while honoring the original.
Jax, who finished third on Season 14 of American Idol, continues to make waves. Her breakout viral single “Victoria’s Secret” remains on radio playlists, and her newest release “Cinderella Snapped” debuted on Pop airplay this week. The single builds on her theme of female empowerment and self-determination.
Lauren Spencer Smith, who first reached a wider audience during Idol’s COVID-era Season 18, added a new entry to the HAC chart. “Best Friend Breakup” examines the end of a friendship and has begun gaining traction on adult contemporary/Hot AC radio formats.
Dance-pop artist Tate McRae, known from So You Think You Can Dance, appears on the charts as a featured vocalist on Tiësto’s single “10:35.” The track is performing well across multiple formats, landing in the Top 20 Pop and making inroads on HAC and Rhythmic playlists.
Niall Horan, who originally placed third with One Direction on X Factor UK, continues his solo momentum and also serves as a coach on the current season of The Voice (U.S.). The lead single from his upcoming third album climbed into the Top 30 on HAC this week.
Country superstar Morgan Wallen maintains a strong presence on the Billboard 200 with his double album Dangerous: The Double Album, which remains among the top sellers this week. His current single “One Thing at a Time” surged into the Country top 40, while his previous hit “Last Night” not only returned to the Country chart but also landed back on the Pop chart. The recurring/recurrent status of tracks can affect chart eligibility and rotation, so appearances and re-entries occasionally create questions about how a title returns to active listings.
