Survivor 44 — Episode Recap

A new episode of Survivor 44 aired tonight on CBS. Below is a live recap of the key moments: tribal council fallout, advantage hunts, the immunity challenge, and the tense Tika tribal council where a major vote reshaped the game.

Ratu Returns After Tribal Council

Ratu returns to camp after an intense tribal council. Brandon had played his hidden immunity idol, which negated the two votes cast against him. The only vote cast for Maddy came from Matthew, which sent Maddy home. Matthew expressed relief that the hidden immunity idol had been flushed and that Brandon remained in the game. Matt and Jaime had chosen not to cast votes; both Matt and Jaime played their Shot in the Dark attempts, while Lauren activated an advantage that awarded her an extra vote. Kane was the only person at camp who had voted for Brandon and hoped he could do damage control. Brandon, however, confided in his confessional that he would no longer trust Kane.

Soka Tribe: Personal Talks and Vulnerabilities

On Soka, Matt opened up about a recent breakup and admitted feeling low about his position in the game. Because of an unlucky draw for advantages in the prior episode, Matt cannot vote at his next two tribal councils, which weighs heavily on him. However, his spirits were lifted when he spent time with Frannie — he clearly trusts and is attracted to her. Frannie reciprocates feelings but worries that their connection could be perceived as a duo by other tribe members. Frannie is also the only one who knows Matt lost his votes for two upcoming tribal councils, creating a confidential bond between them that could influence future strategy.

Advantage Hunts Heat Up

Across the camps, searches for advantages continued. On Tika, the group searched for the birdcage key but initially came up empty. Carolyn climbed a tree during the search and was startled by a snake. At Ratu, Kane suspected another idol would be available but was unable to locate one and drew suspicion from his tribemates for idol hunting. On Soka, Danny searched alone and successfully found the key to the birdcage. He opened it in private and retrieved an idol along with a silver coin that has no power but can serve as a decoy.

Back at Tika, Carolyn continued her search and eventually found the key. She too opened the birdcage alone and took an idol, plus some powerless beads. In her haste she temporarily neglected to secure the bag properly. When others returned and noticed the bag’s drawstrings were loose and the contents seemed lighter, suspicion spread through camp. Carson suspected Helen, Yam Yam suspected Sarah, and Sarah suspected Yam Yam. Carolyn feigned surprise when informed the bag had been opened and hoped no one would trace the discovery back to her.

Immunity Challenge: Obstacles, Sandbags, and a Snake Maze

Tensions rose for the immunity challenge, which required competitors to navigate obstacles, collect sandbags, and solve a snake maze puzzle. The first two tribes to finish would win immunity and earn fishing gear. Soka took an early and commanding lead, with Tika in second and Ratu trailing. As the race progressed, the field tightened. At the puzzle stage, Josh worked for Soka, Sarah for Tika, and Matthew for Ratu. Matthew completed his puzzle first, securing immunity for Ratu. Josh finished next, clinching immunity for Soka. That left Tika as the losing tribe forced to attend tribal council that night.

Tika Camp: Strategy and Shifting Alliances

Back at Tika camp, conversations centered on who to vote out. Helen and Carson aligned with Sarah and targeted either Yam Yam or Carolyn. Helen argued that Yam Yam’s physical strength should be preserved, while Carolyn was seen as too independent and difficult to control. Sarah could not vote that night and wanted Yam Yam on board to secure the plan. Yam Yam initially agreed to the pitch but soon reconsidered, running to warn Carolyn and proposing they stick together to target Helen instead, whom they see as too strategic and smart.

Carson privately told both sides he could vote either way, playing both sides of the game. Carolyn considered whether to play her hidden immunity idol but hesitated, unsure whom she could trust. Her uncertainty and emotional reaction heightened the tension heading into tribal council.

Tika Tribal Council: Voting and Elimination

At tribal council Jeff noted the camp’s tense atmosphere. Helen emphasized the need for strength to win challenges, while Sarah argued for the value of trusting allies. Carson admitted he struggled to identify what was best for him, and Carolyn reacted emotionally, saying she was scared and wanted to know who was truly with her. Yam Yam asked to know where everyone stood, leaving things open-ended as the vote approached.

Jeff asked if anyone wanted to play an advantage. Carolyn chose not to play her idol. The votes were read aloud:

Carolyn

Helen

Helen

Helen

Helen was voted out and became the third person eliminated from Survivor 44.

Episode Takeaway

Tonight’s episode highlighted shifting loyalties, secret advantages, and the fine line between strength in challenges and strength in social strategy. With Ratu and Soka safe, Tika’s tribal council removed a key player and reshuffled alliances — leaving the remaining castaways to reassess their plans heading into the next cycle of the game.
