A new episode of Survivor 44 airs tonight on CBS. Below is a live recap of the episode’s events, strategy shifts, and key moments from the camps, immunity challenge, and tribal council drama.

The episode picks up with the Tika tribe returning to camp after tribal council. Yam Yam admits the vote did not play out the way he expected. He assumed he, Carolyn, and Sarah would be the ones to vote out Josh, but Josh surprised everyone by playing a hidden immunity idol. The twist left both Josh and Carolyn aligned to vote Sarah out of the game. Carolyn explains she felt pressured by both Sarah and Yam Yam, who she says tried to tell her what to do. In confessional, Yam Yam labels Carolyn the most dangerous player in the group. Josh describes tribal council as chaotic; he’s relieved he trusted his read and used his idol. Carolyn believes Yam Yam is upset for being left out of the decision, and she wrestles between staying loyal to him or continuing her stronger partnership with Josh for strategic benefit.

At the Ratu camp the next morning, Matthew opens up to Kane and Carson about ongoing pain from a shoulder dislocation he suffered on Day 2. By Day 10 the injury still limits his mobility and dampens his spirit. Matthew becomes emotional as he explains how much he trained and prepared for this moment, making his frustration and worry palpable. Carson, meanwhile, feels he occupies a comfortable position within Ratu. He mentions in confessional that people have been revealing a lot of information to him, and he believes he can fly under the radar as he builds social bonds with Matthew and Kane. Carson and Kane bond over shared interests, joking they’re nerds who can work together strategically.

Over on Soka, Jaime feels at home with her new tribe and believes she belongs there. She considers herself valuable because she carries information about Ratu’s dynamics and tries to play that card with Matt. Matt’s guarded, and Jaime wonders why he’s so slow to share or commit. She vents to Frannie about her frustrations, unaware that Frannie and Matt have already formed a close connection. Both Matt and Frannie admit in confessional they have romantic interest in each other and would be open to exploring that after the game.

Back at Tika, Yam Yam attempts to repair his relationship with Josh. Josh admits he doesn’t fully trust Yam Yam, accusing him of dishonesty, while Yam Yam points out mutual deception. To bolster his standing, Josh falsely claims he still has a second hidden immunity idol. He shows Yam Yam a crafted fake idol and a note, trying to convince him he’s protected. Their conversation eventually turns personal; after sharing stories about coming out to family, Josh acknowledges he’s had deeper conversations with Yam Yam than with Carolyn. Feeling empowered, Josh signals he’s open to deciding who to align with moving forward and floats the idea of voting Carolyn out—an option Yam Yam says he supports.

The immunity challenge that follows tests teamwork and coordination. Each tribe selects trios who will be tethered together to race a course of obstacles, fill a bucket with water, carry that water to lower a gate, and then maneuver three balls through a tabletop maze. The first two tribes to complete all tasks earn immunity; the winning tribes also select who will go on a special journey. The event plays out competitively: Ratu is first to lower its gate, with Soka close behind and Tika trailing. Carson and Brandon work the Ratu puzzle, Danny and Matt manage Soka’s final task, and Yam Yam and Josh tackle Tika’s puzzle. Soka and Ratu land balls in quick succession, but Tika struggles. Ultimately, Ratu finishes first and Soka follows closely, securing immunity for both tribes. Tika loses and is headed to tribal council—Ratu wins the added power of choosing who will go on the journey, and they pick Brandon, Danny, and Carolyn.

Medics return to Ratu to evaluate Matthew’s shoulder. He reports significant pain and uncertainty about continuing, despite it being a lifelong dream to compete on Survivor. At Tika, conversations continue around strategy. Yam Yam voices concern that Carolyn is playing both sides and should not be underestimated. Believing Josh still holds an idol, Yam Yam accepts Josh’s plan to vote Carolyn out. Josh, however, notes the possibility Carolyn could return with an advantage later, so they remain cautious.

On the Ratu journey, Brandon, Carolyn, and Danny discover there is no game challenge waiting for them; instead they are treated to a meal and an opportunity to talk privately. During the meal Carolyn reveals Josh had played an idol, and she names Carson and Jaime as other players who have found idols. Danny and Brandon bond over this information and quickly start aligning. Carolyn, however, feels sidelined during the conversation and believes she’s being treated as an afterthought. In confessional she pushes back on that perception—reminding viewers of her previous moves: finding a hidden immunity idol, planting a fake idol, and orchestrating a blindside. She warns Danny and Brandon they should be wary of underestimating her heading into the merge.

Back at Tika camp, Carolyn signals to Yam Yam that she still wants to stick together. She vents about what she experienced on the journey, where Danny and Brandon appeared to be forming a “bro” alliance she wants no part of. While seated together, Josh again claims he is safe because of an idol and produces the fake idol he fabricated. Yam Yam recognizes details on the fake idol’s beads from earlier tree mail, and Carolyn recognizes the note Josh shows—she had already seen it days earlier. Both Yam Yam and Carolyn now know Josh’s idol is fake. Carolyn pleads with Yam Yam to vote Josh out, while Josh continues to push Yam Yam toward voting Carolyn out. With both sides lobbying him, Yam Yam finds himself in the pivotal power position, unsure who to trust.

Before Tika heads to tribal council, host Jeff Probst arrives with breaking news: Matthew has withdrawn from the game due to his shoulder injury. The pain became unbearable and forced his exit. As a result of that medical leave, Tika will not attend tribal council tonight.

That wraps tonight’s episode of Survivor 44. The hour delivered emotional revelations, shifting allegiances, and an immunity challenge that altered the power dynamics between tribes. Check back next week for another live recap covering more strategy, surprises, and the next steps as the game progresses.
