Jennifer Hudson’s Fall Talk Show Debuts on FOX Stations

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson is stepping into daytime television as the host of a new talk show. The American Idol alum and former coach on The Voice will lead The Jennifer Hudson Show, set to air on Fox Television Stations this fall.

Variety reports that the one-hour afternoon program is positioned by Warner Bros. Television to become the studio’s flagship daytime talk show following the conclusion of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which ends this spring after 19 seasons. While it isn’t labeled as a direct replacement, industry observers view Hudson’s series as a major new daytime entry from the studio.

The Jennifer Hudson Show is produced in partnership with Telepictures, the production company behind Ellen’s program. Executive producers Andy Lassner and Mary Connelly served as showrunners on Hudson’s initial test episode, which was filmed last fall on the Ellen stage. After circulating the concept among station groups, Fox Television Stations emerged as the primary outlet, securing distribution in multiple markets.

In addition to Fox Television Stations, the show will launch on Hearst Television and has agreements with other station groups that together represent coverage of more than 60 percent of U.S. households. That level of reach positions the program for a broad national audience from its debut.

“I cannot wait to connect on a deeper level,” says Jennifer

Hudson offered a personal statement about the project, reflecting on her life and career. She said she has experienced “the highest of the highs, the lowest of the lows, and just about everything in between,” and quoted the advice her mother gave her: “Once you think you’ve seen it all, just keep on living.”

She expressed excitement about connecting with viewers and sharing authentic conversations. Hudson explained that people have been part of her journey from the beginning and that she looks forward to joining audiences on their own journeys through interviews and discussions that explore what inspires and moves people. She emphasized her love of people and her eagerness to reveal the many sides of who she is—both as an entertainer and as a person—while working with an experienced production team to create an engaging and lively show.

Jennifer Hudson and Mike Darnell reunite

The series reunites Hudson with Mike Darnell, Warner Bros. Television’s president of unscripted and alternative television, who previously led alternative programming at FOX and was involved in American Idol during Hudson’s early career. Hudson competed on American Idol in 2004, finishing in seventh place, an early milestone on her path to wider recognition.

Darnell praised Hudson’s breadth of talent and authenticity, noting her achievements across music and film. He highlighted her Grammy-winning music career and Oscar-winning acting work, calling her a natural in the talk-show format and predicting audiences will welcome her into their homes each day.

Two American Idol alums go head to head

When The Jennifer Hudson Show debuts this fall, it will add an interesting dynamic to daytime programming, creating a matchup between two prominent former American Idol contestants. Emmy-winning Kelly Clarkson currently hosts The Kelly Clarkson Show for NBC/Universal, a daytime presence that has proven durable and popular with viewers. Hudson and Clarkson are friends who previously served as coaches on The Voice, and their respective national talk shows are expected to compete in many local markets where both are carried.

Hudson’s move into daytime expands her already varied career, which includes acclaimed film roles in productions such as Dreamgirls and Respect, alongside achievements in music and television. The Jennifer Hudson Show promises to blend celebrity interviews, personal storytelling, and lively conversations, anchored by Hudson’s warmth, empathy, and strong emotional range. With a seasoned production team and broad station distribution, the show aims to establish itself as a fresh, authentic voice in daytime television.
