The Amazing Race 36 Week 8 Live Blog
Tonight’s episode of The Amazing Race aired on CBS, sending the remaining teams to Bridgetown, Barbados for an action-packed eighth leg. This live recap covers the leg’s key moments: navigation woes in heavy rain, a Roadblock that tested tennis skills, a Detour on Long Bay Beach featuring fish pot building or seaweed collection, and an elimination at the Pit Stop.
The leg began in Bridgetown with the first group of teams—Ricky & Cesar and Angie & Danny—receiving a clue directing them to drive themselves to Fairfield/Black Rock for the next clue. A brief confessional from Ricky highlighted how the race has strengthened his relationship with Cesar and encouraged plans for a future family. Confused by directions, Angie & Danny initially followed Ricky & Cesar, and both pairs stopped at a gas station to ask locals for help. Heavy rain made navigation more difficult as the groups hit the road.
The second departing group featured Rod & Leticia and Amber & Vinny. Amber reflected on how the race revealed differences in how she and Vinny work together versus individually. Rod praised Leticia’s teamwork, noting how proud he was of her. Both teams made stops to ask locals for directions, each approaching different people for assistance.
The final group to leave included Yvonne & Melissa and Juan & Shane. Yvonne & Melissa, who have been dating three years, revealed differing timelines about moving in together—Melissa is ready, Yvonne prefers to take things slower. Juan & Shane admitted they needed to improve their race performance despite getting along well. Before departing, Yvonne & Melissa asked for directions to get a head start.
Visiting a famous pop star’s home
Ricky & Cesar located the clue box first and discovered a Roadblock: one team member must score eleven points in a game of road tennis against a local. Ricky volunteered for the challenge. He completed the task before other teams arrived and retrieved the next clue sending them to the childhood home of Rihanna. Angie, who has experience playing and coaching tennis, chose to attempt the Roadblock when she and Danny reached the site.
At Rihanna’s childhood home the clue was hidden in the mailbox and directed teams to drive on to Long Bay Beach. Angie & Danny were surprised to learn who Rihanna was—Danny tried to describe the pop star but struggled to name a song. Meanwhile, Juan & Shane and Amber & Vinny struggled with navigation; Juan & Shane borrowed a phone from a local to look up directions.
Yvonne & Melissa arrived at the Roadblock with Yvonne deciding to take the challenge even though Melissa believed she was the stronger player. Rod & Leticia arrived later and Leticia stepped up to do the Roadblock for her team. Amber & Vinny reached the site as well, with Vinny ultimately choosing to compete. Both Juan and Vinny ultimately completed the Roadblock.
Breaking the rules
As teams shuffled between locations in the rain, an incident occurred: Angie & Danny became separated from their production crew at a roundabout when the car behind them took a different turn. This separation from crew is against The Amazing Race rules and added tension to their leg. Back on course, Ricky & Cesar, after asking for directions, felt back on track and continued on to Long Bay Beach.
At Long Bay Beach, teams faced a Detour with two choices: Fish Pot Building or Seaweed Clearing. Fish Pot Building required constructing a sturdy fish pot; Seaweed Clearing required collecting enough seaweed to fill a barrel. Ricky & Cesar initially tried Seaweed Clearing but quickly switched to Fish Pot Building to avoid extra trips in the sand. Other teams arrived and split between the two options based on strategy and preference.
Team No. 1 arrives
Angie & Danny reached Long Bay Beach but had to wait in their car until their crew caught up due to the earlier separation. Yvonne & Melissa, Amber & Vinny, and Rod & Leticia all opted for Fish Pot Building after some deliberation. When Angie & Danny’s crew rejoined them, they too chose to attempt the fish pot task, hoping to avoid last place.
Ricky & Cesar completed the Detour first and raced to the Pit Stop at Hastings Rocks. Phil greeted them at the mat with the good news: Ricky & Cesar finished in first place and each won $7,500. Juan & Shane, who had previously been lost, executed Seaweed Clearing efficiently and surged forward, filling nearly their entire barrel and moving up the standings.
Rod & Leticia struggled at one inspection and had to make corrections before continuing. Amber & Vinny and Yvonne & Melissa completed their Detour tasks and headed to the Pit Stop. Juan & Shane’s strong recovery earned them second place, a notable climb from earlier setbacks.
From last place to second place
Juan & Shane crossed the mat as Team #2, applauded by Phil for their comeback. Amber & Vinny and Yvonne & Melissa took third and fourth place respectively. Rod & Leticia arrived next, dealing briefly with a stuck car in mud before pushing through to the mat as Team #5.
Angie & Danny arrived after Rod & Leticia, and Phil delivered the elimination: Angie & Danny were eliminated from the race. Both reflected on their experience—Danny called it everything he had dreamed of, while Angie said she felt privileged to have competed with him.
