NBC sets 2023 fall schedule with The Voice 24 expanded hours, America’s Got Talent finale latest date ever
NBC will launch its 2023–24 fall lineup beginning Monday, Sept. 25, anchored by season 24 of The Voice. The network’s plans reflect ongoing disruption from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA labor actions, which have delayed many scripted productions. As a result, NBC’s early fall strategy leans more heavily on unscripted, reality and game programming — formats that can continue producing new episodes while scripted shows remain on hold.
One notable shift: the America’s Got Talent live finale moves later in the schedule than usual and will air across Tuesday, Sept. 26 (performance episode) and Wednesday, Sept. 27 (season finale). That timing preserves the show’s six-week live window that AGT has often used in past seasons, concentrated into a tighter block to accommodate other schedule changes this fall.
NBC is also extending The Voice’s presence on the schedule. Starting Oct. 3, The Voice will air a special two-hour episode. Then, beginning Oct. 10, the network will adopt a two-night presentation for the series: a one-hour recap show at 8 p.m. that revisits performances from the previous night, followed by a brand-new hour of competition at 9 p.m. This expanded approach gives viewers more context and helps build momentum across consecutive evenings.
The Voice season 24 returns with host Carson Daly and coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire and Niall Horan. America’s Got Talent will crown its season 18 winner the week of Sept. 26–27, with host Terry Crews and judges Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell presiding over the live performances and finale.
Because game shows, reality series and variety programming are generally not covered by the striking writers’ and actors’ unions, NBC can rely on these genres to fill its prime-time hours. Shows such as The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and America’s Got Talent are able to continue production under the current union conditions, giving the network a way to deliver original entertainment while many scripted titles are delayed.
In addition to reshuffling hours for existing unscripted hits, NBC is positioning completed scripted projects where possible. For example, the series Found — which has finished filming — will be slotted into the schedule and will take the place of Quantum Leap in certain weeks. That allows NBC to offer some fresh scripted content while minimizing reliance on titles still affected by production slowdowns.
