Nick Cannon revealed that he was hospitalized with pneumonia after posting a message from his hospital bed. The Masked Singer host later removed the post from his Instagram account, but his message reflected both humor and humility as he updated fans on his condition.

In the brief hospital note he shared, Cannon wrote, “So I guess I’m not Superman.” He went on to reassure supporters that the diagnosis was pneumonia and that, with rest, he expects to recover. He emphasized he did not want an overwhelming response of well wishes or prayers, asking instead for the time and space to rest and regain his strength.

His post also contained a personal reminder about self-care. Cannon said he had promised himself he would not return to that difficult place again and framed the experience as a lesson: if you do not take care of yourself, you cannot be there for others. That sentiment came alongside a candid observation about how quickly life can change. One night he was performing to a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden, and the next he found himself alone in a small hospital room.

Cannon has been open about his ongoing health struggles. He lives with the autoimmune disease lupus, which can complicate recovery from other illnesses. In the past, he has faced serious medical episodes: in 2012 he was hospitalized for what was described as mild kidney failure, and shortly afterward he experienced a pulmonary embolism. Those prior events have shaped the way he speaks about his health and the importance of vigilance and rest.

Nick mourns on the one-year anniversary of his son’s death

Alongside the news of his illness, Cannon has also been processing deep grief. He shared on Instagram that, while his physical health was improving, he felt “spiritually” broken as he marked the one-year anniversary of his son Zen’s death. Zen died at five months old from a rare form of brain cancer on Dec. 5, 2021, and Cannon described the anniversary as one of the toughest days of his life.

He wrote about sleepless nights and the heavy, persistent pain that accompanies losing a child. Cannon spoke honestly about the complex mix of emotions he carries—guilt, sorrow, and a profound sense of loss that he says he suppresses every day. He acknowledged his own imperfections and the scrutiny that sometimes follows his personal choices, but he emphasized the depth of his love. “I love hard, I love big and I love with my entire heart and soul,” he wrote, adding that he wished his son could have experienced more of that love while he was alive.

On the anniversary, Cannon asked followers to keep Zen in their thoughts and prayers. Earlier, from his hospital bed, he had asked people not to waste their prayers on him, yet in a later message he admitted he could use those prayers now, asking for peace for his son and expressing eternal love for him.

Cannon’s family life has remained in the public eye. He is the father of many children with different partners and is reportedly expecting another child, which would expand his large family further. Throughout his posts, he has balanced news about his personal life and his health with reflections on fatherhood, grief, and recovery.

As he recovers from pneumonia, Cannon has stressed the importance of rest and self-care. The combination of managing a chronic condition like lupus, past serious medical episodes, recent hospitalization, and ongoing bereavement makes this a particularly challenging period. Despite these struggles, his messages have conveyed determination: he plans to rest, recover, and continue moving forward while honoring the memory of his son.

Fans and followers have been left with a portrait of a man confronting both physical illness and deep emotional pain. Cannon’s openness about his vulnerabilities—about needing rest, about grief, and about the limits of what he can carry alone—resonates as a reminder of the human side of celebrity and the universal need for compassion and recovery in difficult times.
