Nicki Minaj, Scotty McCreery Headline American Idol S11 Tribute

American Idol: Next Week’s Theme — Contestants Sing Songs by Their Own Idols

FOX has released details for next week’s American Idol performances: the remaining contestants will tackle songs by the artists who inspired them. The “sing your idol’s songs” theme gives each finalist the chance to honor a personal musical influence while delivering material that may feel current and meaningful to both the singer and the audience.

According to a social media update from Dizzyfeet, contestants will draw inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Miranda Lambert, Lifehouse, Daughtry and Led Zeppelin. That eclectic mix promises varied musical choices, from contemporary pop and country to rock and alternative, offering the Top Nine room to showcase different strengths and musical styles.

Special Performances and Guest Artists

In addition to the themed performances by the finalists, Nicki Minaj will appear to perform her hit single “Starships.” Country artist and Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery is also scheduled to return to the Idol stage to perform his new single, listed in the announcement as “Water Tower Town.” Pop star Kelly Clarkson is expected to tape a performance next Thursday as well.

Who’s Still Competing

The Top Nine finalists who will take the stage next week are DeAndre Brackensick, Hollie Cavanagh, Colton Dixon, Heejun Han, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez and Elise Testone. Each of these singers will choose and perform a song from an artist they consider an idol, presenting an opportunity to connect personal influences with competitive song choices.

Recent Elimination and This Week’s Highlights

On the most recent results show, Erika Van Pelt was eliminated after receiving the fewest votes among the finalists. The episode also featured a live performance from Lana Del Rey of her hit “Video Games,” and Season 10 alum Haley Reinhart returned to debut her new single “Free.” These guest appearances brought additional star power and variety to the results night.
