The Amazing Race Recap: Double U-Turn Shakes Up the Teams at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
A new episode of The Amazing Race aired tonight on CBS. Below is a clear, live-style recap of the leg featuring a surprise Double U-Turn vote, a challenging Detour at Pantai Pandawa, and a seaside Roadblock at Nusa Dua Beach.
The leg opens with Jonathan & Ana reading their clue directing them to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Phil announces a surprise twist: a live Double U-Turn vote will take place at the sanctuary. When Jonathan & Ana arrive early, they discover the sanctuary won’t open until 8:00 a.m.
Once the sanctuary opens, all teams gather and Phil explains the Double U-Turn: the two teams who receive the most votes will be U-Turned. Tensions surface as teams discuss strategy and past moves, including frustrations over the Driver’s Seat decision. After the deliberations, each team reveals its vote.
Votes were cast as follows:
Brett & Mark voted for Scott & Lori.
Jonathan & Ana voted for Nick & Mike.
Pops & Jeff voted for Jonathan & Ana.
Han & Holden voted for Scott & Lori.
Melinda & Erika voted for Scott & Lori.
Carson & Jack voted for Jonathan & Ana.
Nick & Mike voted for Scott & Lori.
Alyssa & Josiah voted for Jonathan & Ana.
Scott & Lori voted for Jonathan & Ana.
Scott & Lori and Jonathan & Ana were U-Turned. With votes revealed, all teams receive new clues and are instructed to proceed to Pantai Pandawa for a Detour.
At Pantai Pandawa, the Detour presents two choices: Coconuts or Coral. Coconuts requires teams to transport 60 coconuts by bike to a beach café, demanding balance and endurance over multiple trips. Coral requires teams to identify and attach five species of coral to a frame in a specific pattern and then plant the frame on the ocean floor—an exacting, detail-oriented underwater task.
Teams split their choices: Han & Holden choose Coconuts and take an early lead on the bike route. Brett & Mark choose Coral, as do Carson & Jack, while Alyssa & Josiah, Melinda & Erika, Nick & Mike, Pops & Jeff, and Scott & Lori mix between the two tasks. Jonathan & Ana initially pick Coconuts but switch to Coral after starting.
Carson & Jack and Brett & Mark progress quickly on the Coral Detour. Jonathan & Ana struggle because they aren’t matching the required pattern from the sample, and it costs them multiple attempts. Carson & Jack and Brett & Mark pass their checks on their first tries, allowing them to move on to Nusa Dua Beach ahead of others.
Ana battles a fear of open water while trying to secure the coral frame to the ocean floor; persistent waves make planting difficult, but they eventually complete the task. Meanwhile, teams on the Coconuts Detour make numerous bike trips. Alyssa & Josiah finish Coconuts first, with Scott & Lori close behind. Other teams, including Pops & Jeff and Nick & Mike, are also inching toward completion.
After finishing their Detours, teams head to Nusa Dua Beach for the Roadblock: one team member must swim out with a surfboard to find a surfer carrying an identical sticker on their board. Jack decides to do the Roadblock for Carson & Jack, and Brett takes on the task for his team. Jack initially misinterprets the requirement and looks for a color match rather than the sticker, which slows him down. Brett, with surfing experience, moves confidently and finds his match quickly.
As the Roadblock unfolds, teams cycle through the final challenge. Brett & Mark complete the Roadblock and make the short sprint on foot to the Pit Stop at Taksu Art Stage. Phil greets them and announces that Brett & Mark are Team #1, each winning $5,000. Carson & Jack arrive soon after as Team #2.
Pops & Jeff finish the Roadblock and arrive as Team #4, while Alyssa & Josiah secure Team #3 earlier. Melinda & Erika arrive as Team #6 after Erika completes the Roadblock quickly. Nick & Mike, delayed by a wrong turn en route to the Pit Stop, limp onto the mat as Team #7. Han & Holden also complete their tasks and finish in the middle of the pack.
Near the finish, Jonathan & Ana and Scott & Lori are locked in a tight battle. Both teams face the Roadblock: Jonathan chooses to do it for his team; Scott volunteers for his. It’s a close race on the water. Jonathan finds his match first and, though exhausted and taking frequent breaks, he pushes through. Jonathan & Ana reach the Pit Stop as Team #8.
Scott & Lori arrive shortly after. Phil delivers the difficult news: Scott & Lori have been eliminated. Emotions run high—Scott is visibly upset and emotional, while Lori reflects on the adventure and memories they’ve made.
