America’s Got Talent judge Sofia Vergara divorcing Joe Manganiello after 7 years of marriage

Sofía Vergara and actor Joe Manganiello have announced they are separating and will divorce after seven years of marriage. The news comes via a joint statement in which the pair confirmed the difficult decision and asked for privacy as they work through this transition.

In their statement the couple said: “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.” That appeal for privacy was reiterated by sources who told media outlets the split has been developing over time.

Vergara, who serves as a judge on America’s Got Talent, is currently celebrating her 51st birthday in Italy. Photographs shared from her trip show her among friends in Ravello, and observers noted she has not been wearing her wedding ring while traveling. On social media she captioned recent vacation photos with, “Last days of vacay! Even when u r so hot I love u Ravello!!!”

“Sofia and Joe have been growing apart for awhile”

Sources quoted by entertainment outlets say the couple had been growing apart for some time and were taking space to consider their future. One source described a period of distance and suggested the decision followed a stretch of reduced time together.

The last public sighting of the two together came recently in Hoboken, New Jersey, when Vergara visited Manganiello on the set of his new project, Nonnas, which also involves actor Vince Vaughn. People close to the situation reportedly pointed to Manganiello’s filming commitments as an initial reason for his absence from parts of Vergara’s birthday trip. Those explanations, according to insiders, lost force after production slowed amid industry strikes, and his continued absence from her celebrations prompted those around Vergara to conclude the relationship had effectively ended.

Friends and colleagues who attended the couple’s wedding in November 2015 recall a lavish Palm Beach ceremony with around 400 guests, including many of Vergara’s Modern Family co-stars. The marriage was widely covered at the time as a high-profile union between two well-known Hollywood figures.

Both Vergara and Manganiello have long-running careers in film and television. Vergara joined the America’s Got Talent judging panel in 2020 and is currently in her fourth season on the show; she will sit alongside Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell, with Terry Crews returning as host for the program’s live rounds. Auditions for the season were taped in Pasadena earlier in the year and the series is on air now.

Manganiello has been working on new film projects and was recently filming Nonnas, which brought him to the East Coast. Sources noted that industry work schedules and the pauses caused by the writers’ and actors’ strikes affected travel and availability for both stars, complicating plans and public appearances during recent weeks.

At this stage, both Vergara and Manganiello have asked for discretion while they finalize details of their separation and make private arrangements. There has been no detailed public account of the reasons behind their decision beyond the couple’s brief statement and the comments attributed to close sources. As with any private family matter, those involved have requested space to manage the process away from media scrutiny.

Fans and colleagues have reacted to the news with messages of support for both actors, and media coverage is likely to continue as more information becomes available. For now, the couple’s statement and the reports from sources emphasize a mutual desire to handle the next steps quietly and respectfully while they each move forward.
