2024 Grammy Awards Premiere and Primetime Ceremonies – What to expect

The 2024 Grammy Awards season has arrived, bringing a full day of performances, tributes, and award presentations. Traditionally, the festivities begin with the Grammy Premiere Ceremony—an award-packed afternoon event that honors many genre-specific and technical achievements—followed by the Primetime telecast in the evening, which highlights the biggest categories and showcases headline performances. This year’s Primetime show returns to television on CBS and will once again be hosted by Trevor Noah, who also serves as a producer of the broadcast.

2024 Grammy Premiere Ceremony features performances from Jordin Sparks, Pentatonix and more

The Premiere Ceremony will stream live on Sunday, Feb. 4, beginning at 12:30 p.m. PT / 3:30 p.m. ET on live.GRAMMY.com and on the Recording Academy’s official YouTube channel. This afternoon presentation typically presents many of the awards for technical categories, production, classical, jazz, and other genre-based categories, giving recognition to the wide range of professionals who contribute to recorded music.

Opening the Premiere Ceremony, viewers can expect performances that include J. Ivy, roots-rock duo Larkin Poe, and acclaimed a cappella group Pentatonix, alongside Sheila E. and Jordin Sparks, the American Idol season 6 winner and Dancing with the Stars alum. Pentatonix received a nomination in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for Holidays Around the World, and Jordin Sparks is nominated for her feature on for KING & COUNTRY’s “Love Me Like I Am,” up for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.

Additional performers on the Premiere stage will feature a diverse lineup of artists and musicians: Adam Blackstone, Brandy Clark, Kirk Franklin, Robert Glasper, Bob James, Laufey, Terrace Martin, Gaby Moreno and David Aguilar, and Grammy-nominated drummer Harvey Mason Sr. The afternoon event emphasizes musical craftsmanship and often highlights collaborations and performances that reflect the breadth of the Recording Academy’s membership.

Justin Tranter, who is nominated this year for Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical, will serve as the host for the 2024 Grammy Premiere Ceremony. Presenters scheduled for the afternoon include industry veterans and acclaimed artists such as Patti Austin, Natalia Lafourcade, Carly Pearce, Molly Tuttle, Rufus Wainwright, and five-time Grammy winner and former Recording Academy Board of Trustees Chair Jimmy Jam. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board Chair Tammy Hurt will deliver opening remarks to frame the day’s events.

Who is presenting and performing at the 2024 Primetime Grammy Awards?

The main Grammy telecast will take place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, airing from 8:00–11:30 PM ET / 5:00–8:30 PM PT on the CBS Television Network. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand via Paramount+ (with availability varying by subscription tier). The Primetime ceremony focuses on the biggest categories—Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist—along with high-profile live performances and special tributes.

Comedic host Trevor Noah returns to guide the evening’s proceedings, blending music, interviews, and moments designed for a national television audience. The Primetime presenter slate brings together notable names across entertainment: Christina Aguilera, Samara Joy, Lenny Kravitz, Maluma, Kacey Musgraves, Lionel Richie, Mark Ronson, Mariah Carey, Meryl Streep, Taylor Tomlinson, and Oprah Winfrey are all listed as presenters during the broadcast.

A blockbuster group of performers is scheduled for the Primetime show. Featured artists include Burna Boy, Luke Combs with Tracy Chapman, Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Dua Lipa, Joni Mitchell, Olivia Rodrigo, Travis Scott, SZA, and U2. Of particular note, legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell will make her first Grammy performance, adding a historic moment to the evening’s lineup. Fantasia Barrino Taylor to honor Tina Turner during In Memoriam segment

The 2024 Grammy Awards will include a special In Memoriam segment to honor music industry figures who passed away over the past year. These tributes weave performances and remembrances into the broadcast to celebrate the artistic legacies left behind.

This year’s In Memoriam will feature a number of heartfelt tributes. Stevie Wonder will honor Tony Bennett; Annie Lennox will perform a tribute to Sinead O’Connor, joined by Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. Jon Batiste and Lenny Kravitz will pay tribute to Clarence Avant, the influential music executive often referred to as the “Godfather of Black Music.” Fantasia Barrino will perform a tribute to Tina Turner, introduced by Oprah Winfrey. These moments are intended to reflect the impact each artist had on music and culture, bringing performers together to remember and celebrate their contributions.

Between the Premiere Ceremony and the Primetime broadcast, the 2024 Grammys present a full-day portrait of the music industry—from behind-the-scenes excellence and genre-specific winners to the headline performances and major awards that define the year. Whether you follow the live stream in the afternoon or tune in for the evening telecast, the ceremonies showcase the breadth of talent recognized by the Recording Academy.
